Why does cybersecurity matter for a small business?

Many small businesses think they aren't a target because they «have nothing worth stealing». The reality is the opposite: automated attacks don't choose their victims, they look for any unprotected device. A fake email that seems to come from a supplier, a reused password or an unpatched computer is enough for someone to encrypt your files and demand a ransom, or to redirect an invoice payment to another account.

The good news is that most attacks can be prevented with simple measures applied consistently: properly configured antivirus and firewall, up-to-date software, backups that can actually be restored and a little training so staff can spot a suspicious email.

An example you probably know

In March 2023, Hospital Clínic in Barcelona suffered a ransomware attack that paralysed its IT systems for days: operations and appointments had to be postponed and staff went back to paper. If an organisation of that size can be hit, any business can. For any question or incident, Spain also has INCIBE's free 017 helpline, run by the National Cybersecurity Institute.

What's included

  • A security review of your computers, network and passwords.
  • Installation and management of antivirus, firewall and VPN.
  • Automatic backups and checks that they can be restored.
  • Practical tips to help your staff spot fraudulent emails and links.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't a free antivirus enough?

It helps, but it is only one part. Without backups, updates and a properly configured firewall, the business is still exposed.

What should I do if I think I've been attacked?

Disconnect the computer from the network, don't pay any ransom and contact us as soon as possible so we can assess the damage and recover your data.
